Disneyland Magic

A magical adventure using infographics

Description

These days people depend on icons and graphic elements to quickly understand content — we want information fast. I wanted to research a topic of interest that I could create data visualization to present my findings. The intention for data visualization is to help people understand the significance of data by placing it in a visual context. These visual context components are made up of patterns, trends and correlations; these items were to be expressed in the form of infographics. I decided to create a poster, a three spread magazine, and a rudimentary digital component.

My Solution

It was easy for me to decide what I wanted to conduct my research on, Disneyland — my favorite place to go. Now that I have children of my own, the magic of Disneyland is even more amazing. My research included interesting facts about the park, food, characters, rides, and sales.

Colors and Typography

I wanted to reflect the beautiful array of colors that makes up Disneyland and the beloved characters that stroll through the park.

I legibility of Futura at various sizes and weights is the primary reason I chose this typeface. I wanted a font that was attractive without an overwhelming intensity at a larger size and weight.

Magical Content

The Poster

For the poster, I wanted to focus on interesting facts about Disneyland. These facts included information that ranged from the plants in the park, souvenirs, attractions, and food. To create the images in the poster I found existing characters and items and traced over them using the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator to recreate the item in my own way.

The Magazine

I chose to focus on three different categories for the magazine; information about the rides, how to save when going to Disneyland, and intresting facts about a fan-favorite ride. I thought that these three subjects were the most interesting to Disnelyand fanatic, like myself.

The App

I wanted to design an app to help new or unfamiliar park goers find rides and learn a litte bit about them. The app would help the user filter rides based upon any restrictions (health or height related), the type of ride and the desired speed. The app would also help the user locate the ride while they are visiting the park.
