A How-to Booklet

Who prefers to unwrap a present instead of pulling it out of bag stuffed with paper? I know my kids and I do! This is a fun instructional guide to teach kids how to wrap presents all by themselves.

Instructional Icons

Children crave independence and knowledge with minimal, or no, help from their moms or dads. I wanted to create an instructional booklet, comprised of eight simple steps with narrative icons, to help children learn a new skill.

My Solution

I chose an age range of 5-8 years old because my son was five-years-old while I was designing this project. I wanted to rely on imagery more than text since most children in this age range are still learning to read and gaining competency. I chose to design a booklet to instruct children on how to wrap a present.

Design Elements

I decided to use bright and fun colors to attract children’s attention.

Fenice Pro ITC is used for the numbers because they are elongated and attractive, especially with colorful fills and outlines.

I used Gills Sans for the headings and body paragraphs of the booklet. This typeface is clean and easy to read, a necessity for young readers. Plus, Gills Sans in UltraBold looks really fun and playful.

My creations of balloons, streamers, and party blowers add even more fun to the party theme of this booklet.
